Book: A Journey in Other Worlds. by John Jacob Astor, written in 1894. This first edition illustrated book, the only novel Astor ever wrote, is a fascinating fiction book about a space ship (looks like a modern space capsule) which ventures to other planets. One of the wealthiest men in the world, Astor is the man who put "Astor" in the Waldorf-Astoria, and who placed his wife in a lifeboat then wandered back to the bar to await going down with the Titanic. Book: The Social List of Washington, D.C. (3 books) for the years 1953, 1954 and 1961. All by Carolyn Hagner Shaw. Each book over 100 pages. Green Suede-coated heavy paper cover. Backstrap on all three show some sun fading and 1954 cover shows wear. Binding and inside pages on all three are good. Previous owner's name/address written on inside of one book, Mrs. DeWitt Hyde (who is listed in the book). These books were considered THE official VIP register for the greater Washington, D.C. area during this era. $20.00
