Walter Mondale: Official 34" Louisville Slugger wooden bat incused "President's Debate Walter F. Mondale October 7, 1984" in black lettering. According to the Mondale staff, because of all the home runs Mondale's supporters think he hit during his debate with President Reagan on October 7 in Louisville, Kentucky, they started calling him the Louisville slugger. Mondale aides were so taken with the name that shortly after the debate, they asked Hillerich & Bradsby Co., the firm that has been making Louisville Sluggers for 100 years in Louisville, for permission to rename their man's campaign jet the Louisville Slugger. The company agreed. When Mondale returned to Louisville for a rally on October 31, a very few of these bats were presented. This lot includes the bat, a newspaper article from the Louisville Courier Journal about the background story, and a small flier with Mondale's picture announcing the October 31 rally. A great campaign piece for any exhibit! Definitely one of the best Mondale campaign pieces. Only 50 were made. $350.00
