Calendar plates gained popularity in the late 1800s and were commonly used as gifts, often carrying advertising of a local merchant, along with a scene and annual calendar. Today, besides being an interesting collection area, they are often sought as birthday gifts for a person's birth year.

Walton Nephews, Freeport, Illinois, 50th Anniversary, 1858-November 1, 1908." Pope Gosser China logo on reverse.
